River Sojourn at Minnesota Marine Art Museum

Posted By: Amy Smith

After two years exploring the upper Mississippi River blufflands, NewGround client Sara Lubinski unveiled 49 paintings at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in Winona on March 6. Lubinski works from a deep background in both art and science and has dedicated this project to creating new conversations for land and water conservation in the region.

NewGround initiated conversations with KSMQ Public Television to develop a full 30-minute program about the project and landowner conservation in the region. A shorter version of the film is a centerpiece of the exhibit.

The exhibit hangs at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum through May 11, will be seen at Rochester, Minnesota’s Cascade Meadow Environmental Science Center July 7 to August 8, and then moves on to the Bell Museum of Natural History in Minneapolis through the end of the year. The exhibit travels to other Midwest locations through 2015.

Sara will continue painting in the region and posting her experiences at ExploreWithMe.net.

NewGround helped Lubinski shape the full concept of the project; develop partnerships with land trusts, museums and creative partners; secure funding; and develop project identity and outreach tools.
